The club is led by Coach Chouchan (pronounced Shoushan), whose students regularly achieve impressive victories. Her coaching style is highly encouraging, focusing on nurturing each student’s strengths rather than fitting them into a specific mold. The primary goal of the chess club is to ensure students have fun while learning. Each session begins with an 8-10 minute lecture, followed by 15-20 minutes of puzzle-solving and practice, 25 minutes of gameplay, and a 5-minute review of the previous week’s topics. Students learn chess through a combination of observation, practice, play, and teaching one another.
Sessions will take place from 3:45-4:45 (except on holidays.)
WINTER PROGRAM:
January 7, 14, 21 & 28
February 4,11 & 25
